Leanne Saward
About Me

Age: 55

Bike: Specialized Ruby Comp

Motivation: Never been across the Nullarbor Plain at ground level, Physical challenge, adventure, scenery. Cycling with a great team and for a great purpose

Inspiration: Kate Leeming – Has cycled across Russia, Africa and Australia and plans to cycle across Antarctica to the South Pole soon. Jacqueline Saward (daughter) – Volunteers in a church-based homeless shelter program

Why Help MADCOW? Love the practical, emotional and spiritual support provided to people in need

Most challenging aspect: Incorporating long, fast rides similar to Nullarbor conditions, when I live around busy roads, traffic lights and lots of hills

Funniest Moment: Being given priority treatment on my bike at roadworks

Interesting Training Partner: McCrae Parkinson – Enjoyed chatting on our first ride together and realised later that we have a connection (through education)

Favourite bakery: Gaffneys Bakery in Heathcote (pumpkin scrolls)

The Ride

Distance Goal: Riding the equivalent distance of the Nullarbor Plain (1,660km) over the whole course

Biggest Fear: Keeping up with the bunch. Kangaroos, roadkill and roadtrains

Most Looking Forward to: Conversations & shared experiences – on & off the bike

After the Ride: Sleeping in my own bed
