From yesterday, getting into Cobar

160 km from Cobar to Bourke today, and it was a bit of a riding dream. We got away from Cobar in good time, the sun was shining nicely for most of the day, we had a light tail breeze, the road surface was generally good and the riding bunch was feeling good. We averaged over 30 km/hr and made it into Bourke in good time. Some might say the day went so smoothly it was boring, but I would reckon there are time when boring is beautiful. As we cruised along, I felt really privileged to be able to have the time just to enjoy the red dirt and bush around me and appreciate the beauty and serenity of it all. In fact it got me all poetic, and started me thinking of Banjo Patterson’s famous poem ‘Clancy of the Overflow’; we are going to listen to Jack Thompson’s reading of it (link below) over dinner later and if you want to join us it may just momentarily transport your mind to the sunburnt land we have enjoyed today.
